words // Brandon Richard Preseason favorites for NBA MVP included names like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Kevin Durant. Teams expected to run away with the Eastern Conference were Miami, Boston and Orlando. However, we're in the midst of the NBA Playoffs and a couple of new faces sit atop both categories. It was the young Chicago Bulls that not only finished the 2010-2011 NBA Season with the best record in the Eastern Conference, but the best overall record in the league. Leading that charge was Chicago's own Derrick Rose, and because of that, Rose has been named the league's youngest MVP in history. Rose reels in the award at just 22 years of age, surpassing Wes Unseld, who accomplished the feat at age 23. He was the only player ranked in the league's top ten in scoring (25 ppg) and assists (7.7 apg). He led the Bulls to their first 60 win season and Number 1 NBA Playoff seed since 1997-98. To celebrate Rose's accomplishment, adidas has released a new video simply called "Youngest MVP Ever." The clip starts with Rose asking "Why can't I be the best player in the league?" Then he proceeds to show you exactly why he can.
